# Kangertech, the tanks of a historic brand and what remains of them

> Kangertech through its own timeline, from the bottom-heat EVOD to the glass Protank, and what its catalogue shows in September 2026.

The name still turns up on shop shelves and in memories, rarely with reliable dates. **Kangertech** has nonetheless published its own timeline, and it sheds light on part of what gets screwed onto a tight-draw battery today. It has to be read for what it is, a company timeline, and set against the brand's current catalogue, which tells a very different story.

## Kangertech in brief, what the brand says and what its website shows

Behind **Kangertech** stands Shenzhen Kanger Technology Co., Ltd, a manufacturer based in Shenzhen. Its official timeline places the bottom heating of its EVODs in 2012 and the glass tank of its Protanks in 2013, two principles still found on the mouth-to-lung tanks sold today.

The brand's website, checked on 25 September 2026, no longer shows a single tank. Its catalogue is split into four sections, "Disposable", "RRD", "CBD" and "Pod System". The timeline places some tight-draw principles in the brand's history, while the catalogue shows where the company stands now.

## The official Kangertech timeline, year by year

Kangertech publishes a timeline headed "Company Milestones" on its About page. Here it is, line by line and with nothing added. These are milestones stated by the company itself.

| Year | Milestone as given by Kangertech |
|---|---|
| 2007 | Company established with e-cigarette patents |
| 2010 | Patent on a "clearomizer pod" |
| 2012 | Bottom heat vaporizer (EVODs) |
| 2013 | Glass tank (Protanks) |
| 2014 | Branch factory established, start of organic cotton |
| 2015 | Integrated RBA Subtanks |
| 2016 | Ceramic patent, closed devices |
| 2017 | Tenth anniversary |
| 2018 | Acquisition of SMACO |
| 2019 | Fully automatic production line |
| 2020 | Timi launched |
| 2022 | Production licences obtained from the STMA |

The timeline does not always say what kind of milestone each line is. Some lines are about patents (2007, 2010, 2016), others about products (2012, 2013, 2015, 2020) or about the company itself, with a factory, an acquisition, a production line and licences (2014, 2018, 2019, 2022).

The 2010 patent on a "clearomizer pod" and the 2016 ceramic patent are listed without further detail, so we make no attempt to describe them.

For anyone interested in a tight draw, two lines matter more than the rest, 2012 and 2013. A third, the organic cotton of 2014, reads the same way, as a principle today's makers still apply.

## The Kangertech EVOD and bottom heating

The timeline speaks of a "Bottom Heat Vaporizer". The idea is to seat the coil at the bottom of the tank, where the e-liquid settles on its own, rather than drawing it up to a coil placed higher.

For a tight draw, the benefit lies in a steady supply. As long as the level stays above the wicking holes, the wick is fed by gravity alone. It is also why a nearly empty tank soon starts tasting burnt, as soon as the level falls below those holes. In practice, a bottom-coil tank is best refilled before the level reaches the top of the wicking holes, not when the glass looks empty.

The principle did not disappear with the EVOD. JustFog's catalogue calls the Q16 Pro coil an "OCC Bottom Coil", and the manual for Innokin's Zenith II shows a coil seated in the base, which unscrews from the tank for a coil change. The timeline does not claim Kangertech invented this layout, it dates it within the company's own history.

Cotton has followed the same path. Innokin's Z-Coil guide lists an organic cotton wick for every coil, alone or with wood pulp, and JustFog places the Q16 Pro coil in a range it calls "Cotton Coil".

## The Protank and glass

The 2013 line ties the glass tank to the Protanks. Glass lets you see the e-liquid level, a useful guide when the coil must never fire dry.

The same material is found on today's mouth-to-lung tanks, with different choices from one maker to the next. The Q16 Pro tank is Pyrex, and JustFog states that its tube cannot be replaced. Innokin did the opposite on the Zenith II, dropping the automatic e-liquid shut-off so that the glass could be replaced.

Aspire, for its part, ships the Nautilus 3S with a metal honeycomb tube plus an extra glass tube, and the Nautilus 3SR with three interchangeable tubes, each with a metal protector. The tube is no longer a novelty, it is a part you choose, replace or protect.

The tube also sets the capacity, which matters in the UK. Aspire quotes 3.75 ml for the 3S with its metal tube and 4 ml with the glass one, while the 3SR comes in a 4 ml standard version and a 2 ml version. Regulation 36 of the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 limits the tank of a refillable electronic cigarette to 2 ml.

## What remains of Kangertech in 2026

The online catalogue, checked on 25 September 2026, has no section for tanks, and the word appears neither on the About page nor on the products page. The site footer reads "© 2025".

The timeline hints at that shift. After the Subtank of 2015, the milestones that follow mention closed devices in 2016, automated production in 2019, Timi in 2020 and production licences in 2022. None of them mentions a tank. The website says nothing, however, about when or why this refocusing happened, and we will not guess.

For a tight-draw enthusiast, what remains of Kangertech lies less in products you can buy than in principles that have become commonplace. The brand's website does not let you check whether coils for its older models are still available either. For choosing a tank today, the link between shape, material and filling is covered in our guide to [choosing a vape tank for a tight draw](/uk/vape-tank-mtl-guide/).

## FAQ

Five more questions about the brand and how to read its own milestones.

### Are Kangertech and Kanger the same company?

Yes. Kanger is the common short form of Kangertech, whose company name, Shenzhen Kanger Technology Co., Ltd, appears in the page titles of its official website.

### Where can I read the official Kangertech timeline?

On the "About Kangertech" page of the brand's website, under the heading "Company Milestones". The timeline is published as an image, which is why the text version above may be handier to read.

### Is the Kanger T2 in the official timeline?

No. The T2, still listed by several shops, appears neither on the timeline nor in the list of popular products on the About page, which names the Subox Mini, the Evod, the Ibar, the Vbar, the Itea and the Timi. With no official source, we do not describe its specifications.

### What is the difference between a tank and a closed device?

A tank is filled by hand, with the e-liquid of your choice, and its coil is changed when it wears out. A closed device works with prefilled cartridges that are not refilled. Kangertech's timeline mentions this second format from 2016.

### Are the timeline dates release dates?

Nothing says so. Some lines refer to patents, others to products or factories, and the timeline does not say whether each date marks a filing, a launch or a first sale. The years are best read as milestones given by the company.

## Kangertech, a timeline to read alongside the catalogue

The brand's timeline dates two principles to 2012 and 2013, the coil seated at the bottom of the tank and the e-liquid visible through glass. Its 2026 catalogue shows a company turned towards other formats. Both are true at once, and reading them together is how the brand finds its place in the history of the tight draw.

Today's tanks, from Aspire, Innokin or JustFog, apply those principles each in their own way. For anyone who vapes for flavour, **Kangertech** is now first of all a name on a timeline, whose ideas live on in other tanks.
